Robert D. Horton has been working in different industries since the young age of 11. Being brought up by the owner of several businesses, he was trained to lead and innovate from an early age. The fruits of this labor could be seen when he cut the costs of garbage disposal in half at a home manufacturing facility at the age of 16, while simultaneously managing sampling and negotiations with large accounts such as Home Depot.
While attending college, Robert Horton came home to aid his father and become the Vice President of Engineering for his father’s manufactured home company. During this time, Robert’s ability to innovate became completely clear. All of the homes were re-engineered to use fewer products and be more structurally sound, and over 18,000 homes were built using the new construction methods. Robert conducted a tremendous amount of research on composite materials, solar and Net-Zero housing technology. He collaborated with Dr. Craig Kvien with the University of Georgia and the USDA to design homes with virtually no power bills under Net-Zero standards. Despite putting most of his efforts into the business, he gained a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a minor in the Management of Information Systems from Georgia College and State University while being the Vice President of Engineering for Horton Homes and the General Manager for Operations for Horton Industries.
After meeting and marring a brilliant microbiologist in college, Robert and his wife started a research and development company focused on a future where science and technology make dreams and ideas a reality through Net-zero practices and novel materials.
